TREATMENT
Currently there is no known cure.
Common treatments include:
Antibiotics such as: doxycycline, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, dapsone, minocycline and the combination of rifampin with clindamycin, and others.
Isotretinoin most commonly known as Accutane and also known as Absorica, Absorica LD, Claravis, Amnesteem, Myorisan, and Zenatane
Corticosteroids (oral or injections)- Anti inflammatory agents often injected directing into the offending area on the scalp.
Topical antiseptic cleansers such as “Hibiclens”
Biologics- such as Humira
- Surgical treatments include
- Lancing /Incision and drainage of abscesses
- Surgical resection and skin grafting
- Laser epilation
- Carbon dioxide laser ablation
- Radiotherapy
- Photodynamic therapy.
